Employees can now submit feedback at the end of their shifts.

Crunchtime Labor & Scheduling now enables restaurants to collect feedback from employees at the end of their shifts with the new Shift Attestation feature. When integrated into daily practices, Shift Attestation is a versatile tool that can provide restaurants with a range of benefits, from legal compliance to improved team morale and more efficient operations.

With Shift Attestation, admins can create customized questions and answers, and prescribe positive, negative or neutral values to the answers. Employees can easily answer these questions at the end of their shift or when they clock out. Management can easily review their answers to get a better pulse on their employees and the operation as a whole. As a restaurant operation grows, implementing a mechanism for feedback is crucial to ensure the evolving needs of the customer and staff are effectively addressed.

How can restaurants put this feature to use to improve their operation?

Restaurant teams can utilize Shift Attestation in a number of helpful ways:

  1. Comply with California Break Law
California has unique break laws that are designed to ensure that employees receive the proper rest and meal breaks during their shifts. Employees can be required to confirm that they have taken their breaks as mandated by law. This helps ensure that the restaurant is adhering to labor regulations and can prevent potential legal issues. Compliance with these laws is not only a legal requirement but also crucial for maintaining a fair and productive work environment. Restaurants in California can use the Shift Attestation feature to create a digital record of responses from employees and ensure they are properly documented.

  2. Survey Team Members About Side Work or Task Completion
Side work refers to additional tasks that staff are required to complete beyond their primary duties, such as cleaning, stocking, or setting up for the next shift. Ensuring these tasks are completed is vital for smooth restaurant operations. Restaurants can easily customize the questions and answers to fit their operation and ensure staff are held accountable for their responsibilities. This can improve overall performance and ensure consistency.
For example, “How much silverware did you roll today? “No silverware” or “50 rollups?”

  3. Evaluate Training Effectiveness
Training new staff members correctly is crucial for maintaining service quality and operational efficiency. Shift attestation can play a significant role in evaluating the effectiveness of training programs. Managers can quickly assess whether new employees are following the training guidelines and completing their tasks correctly. If repeated issues or missed tasks are noted in attestation records, it may indicate a need for additional training or adjustments to the training program. New employees can also provide feedback about their training experience. This can show you areas where your existing training program may need improvement.
For example, Did you have the proper training to complete all the tasks required during your shift today? “Yes, I was ready” or “Still missing some training”

  4. Understand Employee Sentiment
Employee sentiment can greatly impact the overall team morale and productivity in a restaurant operation. Keeping a pulse on how your team feels about their work environment, responsibilities, and management, can help you be more prepared for issues as they arise and proactively address situations before they impact your operation and the guest experience.
For example, How did your shift go today? “Great” “Decent” “Bad”
