What We Learned Behind the Counter at Jersey Mike’s
At Crunchtime, we hold ourselves accountable to better position every multi-unit restaurant for success. Many Crunchtime employees have restaurant and foodservice industry experience, which fosters incredible empathy for our customers. Having worked in similar roles allows our team to better understand and relate to our customers' needs. But, this time, we decided to take it a step further.
Our team recently went onsite at Jersey Mike’s to better understand the impact that Crunchtime has on their business. This unique experience gave us the opportunity to take a step outside of our restaurant management software and behind the counter to work a day in the life at Jersey Mike’s.
We threw on the iconic blue aprons and got right to work. From prepping lettuce, onions, and tomatoes, to making our own sub sandwiches, Mike’s Way, we were able to immerse ourselves in every aspect of their operation firsthand. Well, that is, except for the slicer, which, for good reason, they didn’t let us use. Even the oil and vinegar has its own specific process.
Every detail of Jersey Mike’s operation is thoughtfully handled with care.
Jersey Mike’s serves authentic, fresh sliced/fresh grilled subs on in-store freshly baked bread—the same recipe it started with decades ago in 1956. Ordering a sandwich in the famous “Mike’s Way” style means topping an order with lettuce, onions and tomatoes, oregano, salt, and “The Juice”—a signature blend of red wine vinegar and olive oil. Jersey Mike’s Subs has over 2,500 existing locations and many more in development.
Jersey Mike’s started working with Crunchtime back in 2012 with a focus on inventory and labor management and has just recently added operations execution and learning and development to the mix. Even before implementing Crunchtime's restaurant management software, Jersey Mike’s understood the use case for restaurant technology to scale their business.
Working directly with restaurant brands that we also visit as consumers allows us to see the impact of our work first-hand. We’re truly both humbled and inspired by our visit, and look forward to continuing to partner with Jersey Mike’s for years to come. From inventory to ordering, and beyond, we’re honored to help this incredible organization achieve ops excellence in every slice, every sub, and every store.
